{"id":2030,"date":"2020-08-19T15:16:55","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T13:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marxistworkersparty.org.za\/?page_id=2030"},"modified":"2020-09-16T11:51:12","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T09:51:12","slug":"manifesto-launch-success","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/?page_id=2030","title":{"rendered":"Manifesto Launch Success!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>29 March 2014<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday 29 March the Workers and Socialist Party launched its 2014 election manifesto at a rally in Katlehong, Gauteng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 984px) 100vw, 984px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-5-984x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2031\" width=\"492\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Liv Shange, deputy general secretary of WASP chaired proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 984px) 100vw, 984px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-3-984x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2032\" width=\"492\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Weizmann Hamilton, WASP\u2019s general secretary, spoke on WASP\u2019s history and the desperate need for the working class and poor to have their own party that fought for their interests (picture below, fourth from left). Hamilton explained the reason for making the title of the manifesto \u201cOnly Socialism Means Freedom\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 984px) 100vw, 984px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-6-984x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2038\" width=\"492\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1987 Cosatu congress that adopted the Freedom Charter as the political manifesto of the trade union movement was held under the slogan \u201cSocialism means Freedom\u201d. In the twenty years of democracy under ANC rule, this slogan needs updating as it is clear that on the basis of the continuation of capitalism \u2013 whether managed by a white minority government or a black majority government \u2013 means poverty, unemployment and inequality. It is clear to millions now that\u00a0only\u00a0\u00a0socialism means freedom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-4-489x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2033\" width=\"245\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-4-489x738.jpg 489w, https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-4-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-4-768x1160.jpg 768w, https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-4.jpg 942w\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Liver Mngomezulu assistant general secretary National Transport Movement(pictured above far left) spoke and gave his solidarity from his 50 000 strong trade union, an affiliate and firm supporter of WASP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moses Mayekiso, WASP president introduced the key points of the manifesto to the audience. Moses said: \u201cWe are saying that unless the economy is turned around through the nationalisation of the mines and other key sectors there will never be security is South Africa. Why should there be poverty when our land is rich? But to have real emancipation you need to have structures to give power to the working class.&nbsp;\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-7-554x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2034\" width=\"277\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>ECONOMY <\/strong>\u2013&nbsp;nationalise the banks, the mines, the commercial farms, the big factories and big businesses under democratic control of working class and communities &nbsp;as part of a socialist planned economy.<\/li><li><strong>THE LAND<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;nationalise the 36 000 commercial farms under democratic workers and community control; state help to small and subsistence farmers; community committees to determine the use of non-agricultural land.<\/li><li><strong>WAGES &amp; INCOME<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;for a minimum wage of R12 500 and the institution of a basic income grant of R8 000 for all those living in South Africa.<\/li><li><strong>SERVICE DELIVERY<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;a massive public works programme to build 2.5 million homes with adequate electricity, sanitation, water and road connections; for free healthcare provided by one universal national health service; for free high quality and accessible education.<\/li><li><strong>RIGHTS<\/strong> \u2013 for working class unity against sexism, racism, xenophobia and repression<\/li><li><strong>CORRUPTION AND DEMOCRACY<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;for a workers\u2019 state and a socialist government; all public representatives to be elected, recallable and receive only the average wage of a skilled worker.<\/li><li><strong>FOREIGN POLICY<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;for international working class solidarity; no support to capitalist governments of any sort.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other speakers \u2013 all candidate for WASP in the reflection \u2013 reflected WASP\u2019s wide appeal and roots in the working class and poor communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baznarar Moloi, Katlehong community leader welcomed people to the venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-8-554x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2035\" width=\"277\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Lebogang Mtsweni, Numsa branch secretary in Tsetsi and a shop steward, explained how her union, the biggest in South Africa had decided not to campaign for the ANC in 2014 because the ANC was no longer a party of the working class. She pointed out however that an alternative was needed and that was why she was standing as a candidate for WASP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-9-554x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2036\" width=\"277\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sithembile Nqulo, an AMCU member and gold mineworker from Carletonville and Nkosinati Mpopo, an AMCU shop steward in Rustenburg both both spoke of how the Marikana massacre was a brutal wake-up call to the mineworkers. The ANC was prepared to collaborate with the minebosses and drown their struggle in blood. It was out of that struggle that WASP was born and hundreds of thousands of mineworkers are looking for an alternative to the ANC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" src=\"https:\/\/marxistworkersparty.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/WASP-10-554x738.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2037\" width=\"277\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>WASP announced plans to launch a petition demanding the resignation of President Zuma in the wake of the Nkandla corruption scandal, the launching of a service delivery campaign to give leadership to the dozens of daily service delivery protests in poor communities and create national coordination and a campaign to unite the unemployed youth with the students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>29 March 2014 On Saturday 29 March the Workers and Socialist Party launched its 2014 election manifesto at a rally in Katlehong, Gauteng.
